What Is Asbestos:

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral and was used as a fire retardant in building materials.


Where Is Asbestos Found:

It is often found in buildings pre-dating 1980, and is most well-known as a component of acoustic ceilings, commonly known as “popcorn ceilings”.


Presence In The US:

The material was banned in US building materials in 1978, however installers were allowed to use remaining stocks. Asbestos is more commonly found in structures pre-dating 1986, however can still be present in materials originating from outside the United States. This can include recently built structures.
